Overview

The Light Scattering Digital Smoke Tester continuously measures dust concentration at stationary emission sources. It works on the laser back-scattering principle: a modulated laser beam is projected into the flue gas and the light scattered back by particles is measured to calculate dust concentration.

Because the transmitter and receiver sit in a single unit, it is installed from one side of the stack or duct and needs no optical alignment. Automatic gain and temperature compensation help keep readings stable against flue vibration, uneven gas temperature and stray light.

Readings are shown on a large LCD and sent to the plant DCS or data acquisition system over 4–20 mA and RS485. Set-up is done with an infrared remote controller, and the probe can be installed and cleaned without tools.

Key features

  • Laser back-scattering measurement with a modulated laser source
  • Single-side installation – no optical alignment needed
  • Automatic gain control and temperature compensation
  • Resistant to flue vibration, uneven gas temperature and stray light
  • Large LCD display with infrared remote control
  • 4–20 mA analog output and RS485 communication
  • Tool-free installation and cleaning; low power consumption

Applications

  • Online monitoring of gas pollution sources
  • Stack and duct dust concentration monitoring
  • Dust monitoring as part of CEMS
